High ceilings, big overhead doors, dust and exhaust make shops, garages and warehouses hard to heat well. Lancaster Heating and Cooling installs and services the equipment these buildings rely on across Hamilton, Halton and Niagara, from a single gas-fired unit heater to rooftop equipment, make-up air and the sheet metal that ties it together.

What we install and service

  • Gas-fired unit heaters for shops, garages and warehouses.
  • Rooftop units for spaces that need heating and cooling, such as offices and showrooms. See rooftop units.
  • Make-up air for spaces with exhaust fans or process exhaust. See make-up air.
  • Gas lines to new and relocated equipment. See gas line services.
  • Custom ductwork and sheet metal, fabricated in our own shop. See custom ductwork fabrication.

Built around your operation

Shops and warehouses keep working while we do. Installations and shutdowns are planned with you, and when equipment fails our technicians are on call 24/7 for all brands. See commercial HVAC repair.

As part of Lancaster Group, we can coordinate electrical, plumbing, sheet metal and combustion work alongside your heating and cooling, so a project needs one team instead of several trades.

What to expect

How a commercial HVAC project works

  1. Site visit and assessment

We walk the building and review your existing equipment, roof and mechanical access, and how each space is used.

  2. Options sized for your building

Rooftop, split or ductless: we size the equipment for the load and lay out options from every brand we carry.

  3. One detailed proposal

An itemized scope covering equipment, sheet metal, and any electrical, plumbing or gas work, so nothing falls between trades.

  4. Installation planned around you

Crane lifts, shutdowns and noisy work are scheduled to keep your tenants, staff and customers comfortable.

  5. Start-up and ongoing service

We start up and test the equipment, walk you through it, and set up maintenance to protect your warranty.

Shop and warehouse heating questions

What's the best way to heat a warehouse or shop?

It depends on the space. Gas-fired unit heaters are a common choice for open areas with high ceilings, because they heat the working area directly and can be placed where they're needed. Spaces with offices or that need cooling may suit rooftop units. We'll look at the size, ceiling height, doors and how the space is used before recommending equipment.

How do we stop losing heat every time the overhead door opens?

A large overhead door can empty a building of warm air in minutes. Placing unit heaters to cover the door area, keeping doors open only as long as needed, and making sure exhaust fans aren't pulling cold air in through the doors all help. If exhaust is the problem, make-up air may be the fix. See make-up air.

Do unit heaters need maintenance?

Yes. Like any gas-fired heater, a unit heater should be checked before the heating season: burner, ignition, venting, safety controls and the fan. Dust in shops and warehouses builds up on heaters faster than in offices. See commercial preventive maintenance.

Can you run gas lines to new equipment?

Yes. Our licensed gas technicians install new gas lines and extensions and connect heaters and other equipment. See gas line services.
