Lancaster Heating and Cooling has served Hamilton since 1955, and our main office is right here on the Mountain. From century homes in Durand and Kirkendall to newer homes on the Mountain, our technicians install, maintain and repair every kind of heating and cooling system, with 24/7 emergency service.
Heating and cooling in Hamilton homes
Hamilton has one of the oldest housing stocks in the region. According to the 2021 Census, about 61% of homes were built before 1981 and 33% before 1961, and about 56% are single-detached.
- Older homes in the Lower City (Durand, Kirkendall, Strathcona, the North End): many still heat with hot-water boilers or have limited ductwork. Ductless heat pumps add efficient cooling and heating without major renovation.
- Post-war and 1960s–70s homes on the Mountain: original ductwork and chimney venting often need attention when the furnace or air conditioner is replaced.
- Escarpment weather: the Mountain is typically cooler, windier and snowier than the Lower City. Keep high-efficiency furnace vents clear of drifting snow; see our furnace troubleshooting checklist.
- Heating costs: with long Hamilton winters, a high-efficiency furnace or a hybrid heat pump system makes a real difference, and heat pumps qualify for rebates.
